How We
Met...
The first time we
laid eyes on each other was in September of 1996, in our very first
college class ever at Boston College. Good old Calculus class with
Professor Keogh. I walked into that 9 am (still not sure why
we picked a class that started that early) with Shannon, who I
befriended at orientation, and we noted that there were two seats
available in the last row on the opposite side of the room and B-lined
for them. Little did we know that the boy sitting next to them
would be my future husband! I was very intrigued by this individual,
however it was not the same case for Shannon. She urged me to not
talk to him because he was weird, talked loudly to us in class, & wore
shorts everyday in cold weather with what we now call the "Beach Boots".
I have to admit, he did have some bizarre behaviors such as no notebook,
text book, or paper ~ absolutely nothing in class but a pen to write
notes with me. The funniest thing is that we understood his name
to be "Kaulis" and it wasn't until I shared my student planner a.k.a.
"diary of events" where I would note all my college activities. I
showed him that I logged him in one day, and he was so confused on what
I had written down for his name. I was so embarrassed I misunderstood his name from Carlos to "Kaulis". I had been saying his
name all wrong for weeks before it was corrected!
Since then, our friendship developed each year and we grew closer and
closer...until we finally admitted our undying love for one another,
long after he moved back to New York, of course!
The
Proposal...
The night of
October 4th, 2006, I arrived late from work (typical during these last
days of GMO) and Los greeted me with a glass of wine. We chatted a
little and then decided to walk Quincy, our beagle. I mentioned
that I was hungry so Los put in a (fake) call for Chinese pick up.
We walked out the gate, behind the house and down towards the marina
where we were greeted by Will, the manager of a bar in the marina.
He offered us complimentary drinks that we enjoyed before heading back
to pick up the Chinese. When we approached the front of the house,
Los surprised me so much by getting down on one knee and proposing next
to a pumpkin that said "Will you marry me?" After sliding this
beautiful emerald cut diamond on my finger, he got up to hug me, and I
exclaimed, "YES, I SAY YES!!!!!". Los had champagne with real
champagne glasses waiting in a cooler on the front porch and we toasted
each other. Then he ran in to get the camera (and set up for what we
were really having for dinner) and we took some pictures.
When I went inside there were two beautiful vases of sunflowers and
orange roses, a wrapped present that contained a fleece for me,
tear-jerking cards, and a CD containing songs that we had seen in
concert together. There was also lobster meat with drawn butter &
our favorite college pizza from T. Anthony's. It was a perfect night,
one that I will never forget!
